Federal Bailout of the Adult Entertainment Industry

Okay, when the porn industry, one of most profitable and lucrative segments of the online market is requesting federal assistance, you know that times are really, really, bad.

Quoting from the story, “Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.”

However, a little further down in the article, “Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.”

Although as a percentage of overall queries, sexual searching has been steadily declining, this is really do to the expanding online world in areas such as ecommerce, rather than any actual decline. In other words, the whole pie is getting bigger.

Anyway, hopefully, this is just some attention-getting ploy rather than anything serious.

(note: alerted to this article by Dennis Yu’s blog).

A final quote from the article, “With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America.”
